Took a chance travelling down from Milton Keynes at 4:15 to see the Metro article about the queue saying "Don't bother" then got fined at Euston for not having a ticket which cost £40

Nearly decided to turn back and go home

Spoke to Organgrinder on the horn, decided to chance it.

Got to Camden about 5:45??

Hooked up with Organgrinder in the pub just by the queue. I won't lie I did get into the queue where he and his mates were, but apologised to everyone around who were understanding and it was happening all the way down the line. Much to much I'm so glad I got into the queue, they needed to have been a bit more rigid with the rules, especially when everybody started pouring into what we thought at the time was the only gig. Managed to be about 6 clusters from the front of the queue whn we were told that it was full.

Then

"Ladies and gentlemen there is another show following this one so wait in line please"

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHH BOY!!!!!!!

waited roughly 2 hours? Then in we went

TEN POUNDS ON THE DOOR UN FRIGGING BELIEVABLE!!!!!!

Would have paid £100 for last night to be in such an environment literally a nightclub that happened to have a legend on the stage for about 1 1/2 it felt like.

Obviously you've seen the setlist and yes it was pretty awesome to say the least.

Having wanted to turn back or not bother so many times, I'm truly ecstatic that I took the risk for this!

As things have been described I'd have to leave the Electric Ballroom at 12:45am at the absolute latest to get back to Waterloo for the "last" 1:05 train back to Southampton. Or sleep on a bench 'til 5:30 lol

That I'm even working this out shows I've still got the sickness haha!

I told Mrs T this hypothetical scenario and she gave me a look and said "Or. You come food shopping with me!" lol

That's me told.

Just looked at Ronnie's and they don't have a single free night this month.. Maybe someone will graciously give up a slot? Maybe for an after party.. RAH is free in the main hall (capacity 6k vs O2@ 20k, so still small) on 17,18,23,24,25,26, so if he was going to do a mini residency, that could work; after all, he did say he would work his way up, and if he's here for a month, then 3 or 4 days towards the end of the month could certainly work.. Shepherd's Bush Empire, which someone else mentioned is free 9,10,11... Would also think that the Jazz Cafe could be somewhere, but given how tiny it is, maybe not.. It's free on the 11th and 17th..

Just looked at RAH's Twitter, and they refer to themselves as "London's most iconic venue".. QED

I agree that it's so much better knowing you've got a ticket, but one positive about doing it this way is cutting out the touts. Better crowd control is the only thing I'd change from last night, maybe barriers all the way up the street.

People tumbled in the stampede and it's not impossible for someone to be killed in those circumstances. A few touts making a few quid is of little consequence when considering the safety of a 1000+ people.

They needed way more security and yes, way more barriers.

I agree, Id much rather there be touts, atleast then if people desperatley want to see they have the choice of paying a premium price if they dont manage to get a ticket, I'd gladly pay a tout £70-100 for a £10 ticket to a intimate show to save the dissapointment of queuing for 12 hours with the chance of not getting in

Absolutely speechelss. Saw both shows. The first one from the front row. Guitar work was on another level. Absolutely highlight for me was Something in The Water with the piano intro that then segues into a slow funky jam. New material sounds immense - funk n roll, in particular. Think it was after a killer solo in that track that he stands in front of me, makes eye contact and then tosses me his plectrum. Was surreal. I tried to dance but was just grinning from ear to ear the whole time, like I was paralysed! At the end of the show he comes over again and then hands me his guitar! Seen the standard 3rdeye show before but last night was electric - atmosphere was electric.

He has played the electric ballroom three times in two nights so far. None of these shows had advance tickets. Prices have ranged from free on the first night to ten pounds for each show last night. We have no idea where he's playing next or what his plans are aside from the fact that he seems to be planning to be playing in London (and possibly outside London) for anything from another week to another month. There are loads of rumours but none of them are worth repeating right now.

oh, and i'm open to further correction smile

Mine doesn't mind Prince, she came with me to the Apollo on 2002 and the last night of the O2 in 2007 which she loved. No way does she like the idea of these more "after showy" gigs.

I've got a feeling the format of the past two days is already going to change...

haha that's hilarious. the guy in bottom right of this photo (the young one with the red face) was an absolute drunken cock. Pushing into people and generally being obnoxious.

Aside from that, last night was magic. Yes, the organisation was an absolute shambles, but that version of 'Something in the Water' washed all the bad feelings away. I still feel high.

Yup, he was behind me when the stampeed happened and was trying to steamroller everyone, just to make a few places. Arrogant shit. He got plenty of verbal abuse from everyone though.

For Bambi that drunk guy on the right was passed out on my back! And the guy in the hat was clearly having a lot of fun, but very drunk too, and at one point was squeezing my arm when he thought he was squeezing the arm of some girl who seemed to have stragically used me in some blocking manoeuvre!EnglishGent, IIRC correctly, don't you live in Hereford, my home town? Spooky that we were so close. And in the queue outside, I met a Daniel, from Leominster but living in Hereford. Small world.

It is great to hear that Prince is in fine funky form, but yeah, a little jealous of all who managed to get to the show(s) last night!

I really hope he plays at least some shows that we might get tickets for. My Father declared to me recently that he has added "see Prince live" to his Bucket List.... but there's no way I am gonna get him queuing up for hours just on the off chance of getting into a gig.

Yeah, i told him in no uncertain terms what i thought of him. It sounds petty but there was no way i was going to allow him to push in front of me.

I really really hate queue jumpers I don't care if your really sorry or whatever. You of course didn't think of the hundreds of people behind you who been queueing for hours and you rock up 30mins before doors open.

Just because your a big Prince fan and just have to see him does not give you the right to queue jump.

If I went down I would be by myself and have to travel a long way to get there then waited hours in the rain and you could be that 1 person that would mean I could not get in.

Yeah he did another set this time but people traveling from a long way off could not have hung about for it.

Isnt pettey at all, I've recenlty come back from Australia and there was a Gig I wanted to go to, and it was sold out, with 200 tickets ont he door, we queued from 9am till the ticket office opening at 1pm with around 70 people in front, and gradually more and more joined, (Mainly girls not to sound sexist) but women do get away with it a little more, especially with young lads. We finally got to the front window after waiting on 38C heat all morning and come to pay the girl..... "Sorry they were our last tickets" she said!!!

Soul destroying knowing you spent your time queuing up for nothing and that one or two people pushing in front can change the whole situation and be the difference between getting in and not.

Started queuing at 6:45 and was so far back that I was completely unaware of the kerfuffle at the front of the queue. Met some nice people (Claire, Chloe, Cara, Julia & Ed) which really helped to pass the time - in fact it almost made the long wait enjoyable!

Got in to the venue at 10:45 and was rather gratified to see some people who had pushed in get turned away because they didn't have the compliments slips that were handed out.

Show was amazing - ran from 11pm to 1am which makes it the best £10 I've spent in ages.

My back was killing me by the end, though!
